Valley of 1000 Hills
Situated in KwaZulu Natal lies the awe inspiring Valley of a Thousand Hills which is formed around the grandiose valley which was fashioned by the Mngeni river and its tributaries and the thousand valley route has been a well kept KwaZulu Natal secret and is named for the thousands of hills that roll down to the large Umgeni river flowing from the Drakensberg Mountains to the Indian Ocean. It is easily accessible from Durban which is only half an hour’s drive away.
Hluhluwe-Imfolozi National Park - Game Reserve
The Hluhluwe-Imfolozi National Park is one of the oldest and highly esteemed game reserves in South Africa and is situated approximately 280 km north of Durban in Kwazulu-Natal. Originally Umfolozi and Hluhluwe were two separate game parks which in 1989 amalgamated to become the large and impressive Hluhluwe-Imfolozi National Park, home to the big five and many other species of mammals and birds..
The Hibiscus (South) Coast
The Hibiscus Coast of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa lies about 120 km south of Durban and includes many lovely resort towns. Running from Port Edward in the south to Hibberdene in the north, the area includes many lovely and picturesque small towns and villages in between, including the main towns of Margate and Port Shepstone. The sub-tropical climate is warm and sunny and even in the winter months the sea is pleasantly warm enough for swimming, resulting in tourists and holidaymakers being able to take advantage of the delights of the area throughout the year.

The capital of KwaZulu-Natal is the beautiful and historically rich city of Pietermaritzburg. The original Zulu name was umGungundlovu which is, still today, the name used for the district authority. The city is also commonly known as Maritzburg.Pitermaritzburg is situated an hours drive from Durban.
The Drakensberg Mountains
The Drakensberg Mountains situated in Kwazulu-Natal in South Africa are called uKhahlamba by the Zulu tribe meaning mountain of spears. It is the principal mountain range of South Africa and extends for about 200 km dividing Kwazulu-Natal from the mountain kingdom of Lesotho. The name Drakensberg (meaning Dragon Mountain) was given by the Voortrekkers and it is easy to understand why when viewing the towering basalt cliffs which are snow capped in winter and just as awe inspiring and majestic at other times of the year.
The highest peaks are Champagne Castle and Mont aux Sources and this mountainous region of around 243 thousand hectares is a preserved and protected area named the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park. And is an acclaimed world heritage site due to the large diversity of Flora.
The Elephant Coast
The Elephant Coast of South Africa stretches from the Unesco World heritage site of Lake St Lucia in the south of Kwazulu Natal to the town of Kosi Bay which is situated close to the border of Mozambique and also extends westwards inland to the Lubombo Mountains.
It has been named the Elephant Coast as it is home to the largest herd of Elephants indigenous to South Africa that have been present in the sand forests of this region for centuries. This area of Kwazulu Natal also includes the oldest game park in Arica, the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, home of the big five (lion, elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros and leopard).
